simmer down

hey guys! i hope you're having a lovely weekend! i've been fighting a terrible sore/swollen throat all week and most of my days have been spent recuperating in bed instead of recuperating from uni the way i had planned, with tons of reading and music and candles. mostly its just me napping the day away.

i woke up feeling like crap today but after a while i had enough energy to get out of bed and hop into the shower. i watered the plants on the balcony and let my body slowly wake up in the late morning sun before making my cup of coffee (i'm trying a marks and spencer's blend which is a brand i've never brewed before but it's pretty nice). the rest of the afternoon was spent sipping coffee while i used up the last of my overripe avocados making a vegan pasta salad. it was amazing and every ingredient was raw which made me feel so healthy haha. here are a couple of random photos of the week that i never got to post because i was too busy fighting my own body to write out a blogpost. (sorry!)

"coffee for slow breakfasts, lazy afternoons and all-day drinking... perfect for the weekend."

tried this granola square for breakfast one morning and fell in love. its so moist and sweet with cranberries and nuts... yummy!

kinda looks like i live in a lush rainforest which i love. also, i can't get enough of this le labo candle that was sent to me from the lovely creators of the perfumery. i'm not trying to brag in any way but i've always wanted to try a le labo product, and i'm just so happy because santal 33/26 was exactly the one i wanted! they make their perfumes and candles upon order/request and stamp on your name and the date it was made onto the label. it's these little things that i think really make a difference and make it so personal and special. i'm not sure when i'll light it though. i can't bear to think of it being lit - im a crazy candle hoarder that way.

if lilacs had a soundtrack, this would be it. love love love 8tracks forever. sipped on my fav bitter coffee and this dribbly cheesy baked egg-vocado and sniffed these eucalyptus leaves and chilled the morning away.

as you can tell, i love avocados way too much. my favorite dishes ever would be creamy pasta, avocado toast, pho, sushi and pizza. eeeeep.

i love giving books to people! made a package to be sent in the mail (a reading journal) and the other unwrapped package was a gift to my friend when i went over to her house to chill. i gave her "code name verity" and a postcard from obvious state, which features artwork inspired by t. s. eliot's "the lovesong of j. alfred prufrock" which is a poem we studied in our first semester of uni and is one i love. i love obvious state like crazy they have the BEST bookish stationery ever. so classic and minimalistic and pretty.

ignore the weird placement of these eucalyptus, they're taking temporary residence on my nordic-inspired horns as they dry in the lovely overcast gloom creeping in from my window.

also, i've been listening to alex turner's album "submarine" literally nonstop all week. i discovered one track first on spotify and fell in love immediately. i just kept playing that song over and over for months and i don't even know why it never occurred to me to search up the rest of the album. perhaps it was my apprehension that it was a one-track wonder sort of album but wowwww was i wrong. i literally cried when i first heard the album some time this week. it was so beautiful. it was probably an in-the-moment thing that got me super emotional, with the sun just hitting my room walls perfectly and the breeze blowing in and everything in the world just seeming so right in that moment, and the lyrics just went straight to my soul. his voice is so deep and calm and amazing and i immediately searched up the movie this album was the soundtrack for and i'll probably watch it tonight or on monday (because mama's day is tomorrow and it'll be busy) and i'm so damn excited.

just look at these lyrics:

"tell me, how can I put you off

when you're a matter of urgency

i've got a million things that I need to do

but they're all secondary"

alex turner is a lyrical genius seriously. also don't hate me but i just found out that hes the lead singer for the arctic monkeys and i've had all their albums for years but never listened to them ever because of how overrated they were in the hipstersphere but obviously i had to check them out after discovering "submarine", and now they've been on repeat all weekend too. i had a really nice conversation with one of my best friends who lives overseas and we both are really into old music and punk and alternative and the occasional metal (she's really into it and i used to be too but im more of a radiohead instead of avenged sevenfold kinda person now haha) so we had a nice chat about them and all the concerts we want to go to but are too broke and too far away to attend.

i really want to take another shower and get back to my book now before the sun sets completely, so i'll just say bye here. sorry for it being such a long and ramble-y post! i hope you all have an amazing weekend and enjoy your mother's day!

xoxo, ali.
